I am currently in the midst of a writing project, a book exploring the process of deep transformative change through the Biblical story of the Exodus. The comment of a gifted and spiritually sensitive patient whom I saw years ago sparked my thought. She returned from celebrating Passover to say, "The children of Israel went to Egypt for security and it became their slavery. Where is my internal Moses?"
In the book, I will retell the wonderful story of the Exodus that many of us remember only dimly from our childhoods or movies, if at all. Then we'll explore the psychological concepts that can shed light on the story as a transformative journey that we each may undergo. Finally, I'll discuss the stories of some of those who have gone before us on that journey, some who have been my patients, some who tell their stories in literature or poetry.
It promises to be an exciting journey, in both the writing and, I hope, the reading of it!
