About Me
Susan Davis, Ph.D.
Clinical Psychologist
California License #PSY15520
Hawaii License #PSY1377
Licensed in California and Hawaii, I am a clinical psychologist in private practice for the past 30 years. I work remotely by secure video with clients in both states, providing therapy for individuals, couples, and families seeking healing and renewal. Though my work is now conducted online, the heart of what I do has never changed—creating a safe, compassionate space for exploration, understanding, healing, and personal growth.
In addition to my clinical work, I have served as an adjunct assistant professor of pastoral counseling at Fuller Seminary in Northern California. Teaching allows me to integrate psychology and spirituality in a way that deepens both my own understanding and the work I do with clients.
Education and Early Career
I received my B.A. from Stanford University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and with distinction in English Literature. My interest in people and their stories first took shape through language and teaching—I went on to earn a Master’s degree in Education, also from Stanford, and taught high school English in Los Gatos, California, and later college composition at Deree College in Athens, Greece.
When I returned to Stanford, I served as an administrator for ten years, ultimately as Assistant Dean of Research. In that role, I was responsible for fundraising, public relations, and facilities development and management for seven interdisciplinary laboratories and institutes reporting to the Dean.
Professional Background
My transition into psychology began with graduate studies at the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology, now Palo Alto University, where I earned my Ph.D. in 1995. My dissertation, Attachment Style and the Reconstruction of Autobiographical Memories, reflected my early interest in how our past experiences shape the way we understand our lives.
I completed an APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Santa Clara Kaiser Permanente. The following year, I served as Executive Director of the Samaritan Counseling Center, a faith-based counseling center in Palo Alto, before dedicating myself full-time to my private practice.
