Something Rich and Strange:
Discovering Your Path to Wholeness
by Susan Davis, Ph.D.
Something Rich and Strange is an invitation to explore the deep work of psychological healing and spiritual formation. The book traces the process of transformation—what Shakespeare describes as a “sea-change”—and what it means to become “something rich and strange” in the course of our own journey.
This is the hero’s journey: the lifelong work of becoming fully ourselves and fully alive. It unfolds in the place where the spiritual and the psychological meet, in the depths of the inner life, offering a thoughtful map for those seeking healing, spiritual depth, and meaningful change
Through reflections on biblical stories such as the Exodus and the death and resurrection of Jesus, insights from modern psychology, and the voices of writers, poets, and ordinary people, the book shows that the path of transformation is well traveled and available to us today.
Something Rich and Strange includes:

Foreword by Eugene Peterson
“What is striking and attractive to me is her skill in integrating so much that is involved in the healing of emotions and childhood abuse, work relationships, and intimacies into the whole and good life, a journey of transformation…
Reading Something Rich and Strange puts us in the unhurried and gentle company of a friend. As we find ourselves treated with dignity and God treated with reverence, we realize we are in good company, very good company indeed.”
The title and subtitle of my book are quotations taken from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, probably written between 1611 and 1612.
